The Nine Sisters of Seidr: the cycles of Seidr

When I See The Nine Sisters they are like a bent Sky, as a dome. Within and without, above and below are the ages long patterns of dark circling light moving to dark once more. Ever dancing, glittering, giving way. The Nine Sisters' Seidr is a cauldron which I stir and sing calling in the cycles of the Sun and Earth and releasing them. They are energies contained and expressed in my daily wanderings. The Nine Sisters' Seidr year will bring questions and ponderings, answers, stories, action, and responsibility. The Nine Sisters' Seidr is about balance and participation, and exploring community service. The Nine Sister's Seidr contains Staff, Song, Spirit(s), Nature, Seership.

We will be Weaving our voices, the Hjel, the place of the Vølva, of staff and Spirits of Nature of the Nine Sisters with the Sun and Earth cycles, the elementals with some questions and focus on each season's flow and ebbing, always giving towards the next, always with something changing of Life with Mother Earth.

Introduction

My first introduction to Seidr and the High Seat of the Volv comes through Annette Høst, DK back in the early 90s. By then I was already using song- singing aloud the experiences - during shamanic healing ceremonies. Add of to this shamanic song which is present in Republic of Tyva where I was initiated, add to this the tradition of runolaulu - or rune song (not the runes, of writing) which were healing songs, some story-like, some incantation like - of Finland. Add to that other People's indigenous- song cultures and arises a strong foundation for Seidr and how was practiced based on old literature and even archeology digs. From this multifaceted approach we will be bringing to Seidr. Through much exploration, discussion and reflection the shadows of the past became a bit more visible and present.

I do not claim to Know exactly what happened back then. I trust my teacher of seidr and her impeccable work in this as well as friends and colleagues Shenoah Taylor and Christine Mark in UK. We will be learning some of this potent history and research that lays the roots for our time together practising Seidr. We will be working within the tradition of the Volv or seidr-man, the Hjel (high seat of the Volv, not the High Seat at a table of feasting ), Song, Nature, Staff, Community and Service during this time together.

We will explore power and might, voima and väki, Kraft and macht, Life Energy, Ergi energy compared to Ego Energy. The Volv / Seidr-man was the Seer. The path that winds between each cycle will help tone our focus. We will experiment and hone our oracular voice. Our innate gift and all are born with Song: our singing culture without the colonisation, without the christianisation/religionisation, working in cooperation with our spirit helpers, ancestors, and Nature: all focused on healing, service and reconnecting with Nature.

Another part woven into this will be the work of Seidr-inspired song for healing work. How this can be integrated into our daily life and work will be explored. We gather our inspiration from the old healing songs of Finland. We gather our inspiration from the shaman hymns of Tyva. Yet mostly we gather our songs from Nature, Spirits and Staff. We will work with community and individuals and power as Kraft, voima. We will work with ethics, ceremony, witnessing, guardianship, blessing, extraction.

This workshop is not about reconstruction yet an exploration into the research that has been done by quite a few as well as myself and going deeply which includes the staff, the voice - song, the communal and the singular, and finding a way to revive our human roots to Seidr and Spirit Voice or Song. This is not a therapy workshop, however you are asked to be resilient and be able to work in a group. We will not be working with Viking worldviews, drum, or runes. No drugs, plant medicines, alcohol allowed.
